Stop and simply be

Writer: Pixicato PlayPixicato Play

It's been a time of reflection and an extra level of self care even though it's the last thing I felt like and today I ensured I did things that felt really good.

We all have our stuff. Instead of pushing it aside, ignoring it because the feelings are too much what if you simply stopped and allowed yourself to be.

11 years ago today my father took his last breath. He was 64. While we knew it was coming it didn't make it any easier. This time of year gets me every time. The final weeks were, let's be honest, they were crap.

In the final weeks we were with him 24 hours a day. During this time I had the experience of being on my own with him twice when he took a dramatic downward turn and the trauma of watching my dad deteriorate in front of my eyes had a huge effect on me.

As a consequence the lead up to today always hits me hardest. During this time I stopped and allowed myself to simply be and experience all that flowed through me. It meant a couple of days keeping a low profile and letting the tears flow.

Not everyone has experienced something to this level however give yourself the time to stop and simply be. You owe that to yourself and to model that for others.
